Divirod’s Lake Mead Water Level visualization presents daily water level data from Lake Mead, the United States’s largest artificial reservoir that is a major source of water for agriculture and for millions of people in the American West.

Inspired by the striking NASA GISTEMP Climate Spiral created by Ed Hawkins, spiral visuals are an interesting and effective way to identify data trends over time. Daily level data pulled from the The US Bureau of Reclamation between the years 1980-2022 reflects a significant decrease in capacity since the 1990s and suggests that Lake Mead may not be able to refill. As the western United States continues to face the worst drought in the region in over hundreds of years, water risks for crucial water sources like Lake Mead will increase.

Data helps us understand where we’ve come from, where we are, and where we’re going. A data driven story can change the way we see the world. Divirod is a DaaS company that enables action to mitigate unpredictable impacts of water risks. This water level visual was designed by data scientist Dave Van Anda from Divirod.
